1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS Coupe
For consignment, a 1992 version of the Camaro RS complete with its silver bowtie designation. Yup it's a shower and a fun driver, but always put away in the garage after a cruise like a favorite toy in the box. Teal Blue, plenty of aero fairings on the lower body, and a small tasteful white thin stripe at the belt line adding some highlight to this otherwise monotone but stunning car.
Exterior
A long front hood is extended even longer with the front neoprene crash bumper, dual horizontal rectangular inset headlights and the v shaped grille with a low ground effects spoiler. Black trimmings for the glass and rocker fairings with some inlets near the rear wheel well add to the low aero look. A curved greenhouse like glass is for the sloping rear and it ends up into a spoiler which frames wraparound trio lighting and a RS bowtie badged bumper, all painted in Dark Teal Blue Metallic which is the diving board end of the pool (ie.deeeeep!). 16-inch machined cast rally wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle GT II tires all around.
Interior
A swing of the classic long doors and we are met with gray padded tweed broadcloth, a black plastic panel with the door actuator and power lock button. A sleek molded gray armrest/door pull is attached, and some gray carpeting is just below finishing off the door panels. Inside more tweed broadcloth in gray which matched the panels of the doors, along with some smooth gray inserts make up the pattern for the front buckets which are high back and have headrests. These are very clean as are the rear 2 plus 2 seats in the same pattern and color way with the hump dividing the two seats which share a common seat back. If you look real close, you'll see just slight wear on the outside bolster on the driver's seat. A black console races through the buckets to the dash and houses a storage box /armrest, window toggles and rear glass/deck switch release. The shift lever is here and as our eyes climb to the center of the dash, we see a factory AM/FM/Cassette radio and temperature controls. The dash which is very clean, save for one crack, has eye grabbing black faced gauges with yellow numerals and yellow pointers. Not even a speck of dust is noted here. Carpet is gray, and clean, as is the upper headliner, nice and tight too. A shout out to the rear storage area that opens up from the B pillar rearward and offers up two-tiered storage compartments and is also lined with very clean gray carpeting. The side panel also doubles as the speaker holder.
Drivetrain
Let's lift the hood, and here we can see a factory correct, very well cared for, and with the easy miles as expected, near showroom condition engine. Within the confines of the engine bay is a 305ci V8 which is fed by EFI and has a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission on back. A 10-bolt rear is reserved for the axle. Excuse me whilst I eat my lunch off the top of the air cleaner cover!
Undercarriage
Slight surface rust on some of the usual suspects, but certainly all unremarkable. Factory blue overspray is still on the floor pans. Upfront independent suspension with coil springs and for the back a torque arm setup with coil springs. Power disc brakes are on front, and power drums are reserved for the rear.
Drive-Ability
This car fired right up and was eager to get on the test track. Here it performed like I was out of the showroom and on my test drive from the dealership. All encompassing power, smooth automatic shifting, and bias free panic stopping with all functions working as they should.
Essentially a sports car with a roomy greenhouse glass hatchback, all in racy Camaro RS trim. Beautifully preserved interior, and perfectly aligned steel panels all bathed in that wonderful eye catching Dark Teal Blue Metallic. I'm hungry for a Mustang, who's in?!
