1968 Dodge Dart GT Convertible
For consignment, a 1968 Dodge Dart that has undergone a 383ci Mopar Performance restoration. From the cam to the torsion bar suspension all Mopar parts were used for the redux. A larger rear axle, 1973-1976 single pin disc brakes, and a freshly rebuilt A-727 Torqueflite transmission. Oh, and the green metallic paint and convertible top aren't too shabby either, as well as the interior and the new fuel tank and sending unit. I'd say the whole white hat boys' package is all here in the East Hallway (for now).
Exterior
In 1968 the front of the car had a single headlight on either side with a slightly smaller signal light nearby. The Mopar grille with its 4 central open sections and a center horizontal bar gives it the Dodge look in front. A dual side vented hood, nice front and rear quarters, which are adorned with a centrally located trimming that starts just behind the grille runs around the wheel wells and top the back of the car breaks up the Metallic Green paint. Gazing at this paint is almost hypnotic as you will become mesmerized as to its depth. The black vinyl top goes up and down very smoothly, and when down this car is late 1960's cool. A white boot covering adds to the mystique. Wide stainless trim surrounds the windshield and surrounds the remainder of the glass. A side view of this car looks like they just drew a straight flat line from the hood to the trunk deck and save for the windshield is flat as a board. On the back angled taillights are on each corner and a large ribbed aluminum panel with a D O D G E badge in the center grounds the lights in the corners. A shiny bumper is below, and this car just glistens in any light. 14-inch Mopar road wheels are on all 4 corners, and all are wrapped in new 205/70R14 rubber.
Interior
With the top down we can see miles of white vinyl covering all surfaces. Door panels with their GT badges and shiny handles, and low back buckets in front which are just pristine and white. A rear bench is in, and this looks very good as well just like the buckets. Green seat belts add some contrast to the white, and this can also be said for the dash which has a padded green dash top and black and chrome trimmed horizontal band for the dash front. A very clean 60's design not unlike the ties of the era, sleek and thin. In the center of the buckets is a stylish console which begins in the form then widens as it races to the dash. It is molded charcoal gray vinyl and has a ribbed aluminum panel on its top. Just in front of the polished ash tray sliding cover is the chromed gear shift lever more 60's styling. Black carpeting is on the floors and this dash and seating could not get any better!
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 383ci V8 bathed in sky blue paint. It has an Edelbrock 4-barrel 750 cfm carb feeding it and an Edelbrock intake manifold. On back is the newly rebuilt A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission, which pushes power rearward to an 8-3/4 inch 2.75 Sure Grip rear axle.
Undercarriage
Underneath some patina and road dirt and slight surface rust on the frame but all unremarkable. New single pin disc brakes are now up front, and 10 inch rear drum brakes bring this beauty to a stop. Mopar Performance big block torsion bars are upfront and leaf springs in back. Dual exhaust makes its way through new stainless steel mufflers.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and smooooooth runner with great acceleration, fine handling and bias free panic stopping. All was well with the transmission and other functions of this car including the power top. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
A recently completed restoration, now a turnkey car with a 383ci V8, 750cfm Edelbrock carb, and Torqueflite tranny. A like new interior, excellent paint, just put the key in the ignition and drive to a show, win an award and then go home. Or take a retro road trip and turn heads for miles and miles.
