New NHRA Rules
Just a few new rules ! Was reading them on another site thought I'd share.
Anything 9.99 and quicker will be required to have a full face helmet. All generators, air compressors, etc., that are powered by an internal combustion engine must have the exhaust directed up and above the top of the trailer, truck, RV, tent/awning, etc. All open-bodied methanol burning or nitrous oxide equipped cars 7.49 seconds and quicker use a SFI 3.2A/15 suit with 3.2A/15 gloves and boots. no driveshaft rpm sensors for S/ST, S/G, and S/C The engine diaper rule seems to be changed again, according to local tech guy its not going to be made mandtory yet on bracket cars unless you are 4.49/7.49 and faster. |
Thats exactly one of the Reason's i choose to run Outlaw Tracks..and in the past IHRA events
WTF !!!...with the generators??...bunch a freakin clowns with nothing better left to do... whats next :?: ...Can't wear Boxers ?? :?: ... |
AT THE TRACK BY ME YOU HAVE TO USE THE DIAPER FOR 6.39 AND FASTER IN 1/8 MILE
BRIAN-- I AGREE THEY ARE GETTING COMPLETELY OUT OF HAND[OUTLAW WILL KEEP GROWING AND IF THAT GETS TOO CRAZY THE KIDS WILL GO BACK TO THE STREET[THAT IS TERRIBLE   ] IT STILL GETS DOWN TO USING THE PRODUCTS FROM THEIR SPONSERS TO MAKE THEM MORE MONEY--I KNOW ALOT DON'T AGREE WITH ME ON THIS BUT IT IS HAPPENING[ WATCH AND SEE]  --LIVELY |

Does this mean we have to run diesel stacks on our race cars? I just don't see this rule being enforced. Hard to beleive this is causing a problem at the track. |
i agree Vince..to me its the gall to even put it in the rule book..sort of sets the tone that the NHRA has adopted these days..
how about the NO drive shaft rpm sensors ?...well we know who didn't pay for protection this year..lol.. :D |
You are so right Brian.
Ya know years ago I ran IHRA Hot Rod class and went to alot of IHRA races. It's like two different worlds. Now I know why. |
I think most of the guys I know that ran in the super classes at NHRA events have decided to go IHRA and tell NHRA to kiss our A$$! They have forgot who pays the bills and provides the bulk of support. The last national event we went o at Ennis they treated us like we were trailer trash (no offense intended to any actual trailer trash out there) had to even park our rigs at the Walfart a couple miles away. I've had it with um.

I dont have the new rule book yet, but has not the -15 suit for open body alcohol/nitrous cars (7.49) been there for many years now?
and the gas powered generator rules may be because some rednecks were running them in their trailers  I dont think it means if you have a generator beside your car in the pits you need a 12 foot exhaust stack on it.... Im not a huge fan of nhra, but im willing to give them the benifit of the doubt. |
at least the diaper rule changed for the better

This does include ALL generators and not just motorhome/trailer ones. |
AHH YES--I CAN SEE IT NOW---NEXT RULE WILL BE FART BOXES ON YOUR BUTT

NHRA is a lost cause! The parking situation is absurd, they treat us like shit, the payouts are utterly ridiculous, the entry fees are a joke, and the technical department is ignorant.
It's a case of hanging the carrot in front of the donkey. We are the assholes and they know it. They continue to use us for our money, knowing that we are too weak to put up a fight. If one of us quits, there are 10 assholes to take our place. Why do we even bother? Somewhere along the line, our self-esteem was broken, and we feel the need to become "somebody" and drag racing at a national event is the lure. It sure isn't for the money, is it? You can make more money in one weekend at a local bracket race! I've decided to become "somebody" by quitting NHRA for good. I will not renew my license or my subscription to the lowly National Dragster which is printed for spectators, NOT racers. And we pay the bill for that too! My dragster will be reduced to a 10.00 S/P car on pump gas next year and I will attend only non-NHRA big money bracket events. NHRA will not get another dime from me. After 40 years of supporting NHRA I finally realize what their game is. Support NHRA and be a pawn, a sucker, and an enabler, or quit and feel good about yourself again. Just my humble opinion.... . |
I HEARD THAT !!! :D
Bob1320 you are more than Welcome to come Join us at our local 'OUTLAW" tracks near you.BIG PAYOUTS and very affordable with NO CORPORATE HARASSMENT... Our mortality rate is just as good as anyone running in the NHRA.. ( just in case someone went there) Also IHRA is the bomb.. thaNks for upur opinion I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER.. 8) |
I am just glad the NHRA stuff I run is ran by people that arent pushing every little rule. There are a few tracks both IHRA and NHRA that have checked every little thing on my cars though, it happens. Bummer to this is I just spent some good coin to go 7.4's and now hope it only goes 7.5's
This is dumb though 4.49 does not equal 7.49 for this -15 suit. |
Youre right David 4.49 should equal low 7.0s !
|
I have never understood how they make the rules for what safety equipment the driver must wear...even for the slower cars. It makes no sense to me to require someone to have a jacket(of any kind) but not pants. Don't get me wrong I am not belly aching about that...just don't understand it. It seems to me that if anything were to happen that would warrant some sort of fire protection, your legs would need protected the same as your arms and body.Obviously you can wear em if you want to,but if they are so safety minded it seems odd that it isn't required.

nhra
i see alot of people on this post that dont like the nhra. but let me tell you you go to the outlaw tracks and hurt a fan or worse kill one and see what your insurance does for you then.or take a good look at some of the stuff you line up against .do you want this nuckle head that built this car in the shed with coat hangers in the other lane against you.not me i will put up with thier rules but at least i know the are a licenced driver.jmo.

NHRA stock eliminator doesn't have to wear fire jackets at all. Some guys run in the 9's. The entry fee's for events is outrageous for Divisional and National Events. It's just not fair to the little guys. I've pulled up against some cars at many NHRA events that scared the heck out of me. I think it depends on the tech inspector that day. But I guess we could not run if we choose to. It's just some things don't make much sence to me. Rule changes at the beginning of this post are ridiculous. There again just my opinion  |
Bob
Hey Bob how do you really feel come on dont hold back :) :) just wanted to see if my pic would come up. New to the site Thanks

i think what you have read is that we do not like the petty rules that are imposed. If you think these rules are keeping you safe then thats great your entitled to your opinion.I hope you do not find out anytime soon that this is a false sense of security.. furthermore nothing wrong in building your car in the shed..not everyone can afford a NHRA ( ) Certified chassis..and if they could they could not afford all the changes and updates each year...lMAO.. If you want to come and re-visit what NHRA used to be..go to your next 10.5 OUTLAW RACE....gauranteed to be the fastest COAT HANGERS in the land...... 8) Again your opinion is welcome here always... ps: dont forget the NHRA Fart Muzzle upgrade coming in 2009.i think lively has the rough draft rule book on this one...lol Brian |
Brian whats this fart muzzle rule ???? David. mufflers?

OH BOY David.
|
I let my NHRA membership expire in July after 28 years.
Don't regret it one bit. NHRA sold out and then Wally died. I'll stick with bracket racing. |
-15 RULE
more reason for me to accept what my wife tells me, YOUR NOT BUILDING A TOP DRAGSTER

nhra
well in my 30+ years of racing ive been a member of nhra for the most part of it and ive never got anything from it but a rule book patch coupons etc... and of course the national dragster.ive raced at some nhra tracks that should of been tore up heck walmarts parking lot is better and smoother lol. the rules are our "guideline" and yes some are just plain stupid but in the most part ,saftey needs to come first. alot of the rules we "enjoy" now stemmed from some ones accident and also loss of their life. we all know we are taking a risk when we jump in our cars and how many of us that do run nhra tracks would have skimpt on some stuff in order to just finish the car?heck ive refused to run some"nhra legal car"and just let them run by themself. nhra has set the bar for saftey in a sport where anyone who attends the race could be killed. i remember several race tracks where the spectators had their feet on the guardrails while sitting in the stands! also blowers blowing off of fuelers in the air over 50 feet landing in the stands or just near by! some of the rules and regulations we need to protect ourselfs from ourselfs. im now not a member of nhra and i only will join again in 2008 to renew my top alcohol funny car license but as most of you i also have a big issue with the new nhra rules. just my 2 cents worth! mike

is nhra changing there specs on tubing or what. i have looked at 3 different cars that were certifyed, after cert ran out the tubing is to thin to recert. tubing don't just get thinner on it's own. seems what is good now is nogood later.
|
I've helt back on posting to this thread because i agree and dis-agree with a lot that has been said. First i run both NHRA and back country tracks and have for a long, long, long time. What no one has addressed, is the 1/2 million dollars insurance that NHRA provides for every racer in case of an accident, whether it be a major event or sat. nite et brackets. Try having a crash at you local backwoods track and you'll probably get billed for the ambulance ride to the hospital, not too mention all the medical cost. With that said i've been a member of NHRA forever and will continue to be. I've never built a car or owned one that would not certify NHRA. Most of the rules are in place for a good reason, although a lot seem stupid. IE: roll cage .125 mild steel tubing when you bend it it will stretch and become thinner than .120 which is the cut-off in certifaction. That's why it's safer to use .134 wall tubing, which weighs very little more and cost very little more. The engine diaper rule, i don't know how many of you have had a rod go thru the pan on top end, but i can tell you it can get harry at times when the oil hits the slicks, i've been there. Not to mention the cleanup time with so many people useing synthetic oil, that's a one hour cleanup. We all hate to come home from the track at 3:00am on sunday morning, and there's a lot of people using nitrous on engines not built for them so more blown engine in the future for sure.
I will continue to run backwoods tracks i love them, but at the same time i will contine to run NHRA tracks and know that i can certify anywhere i go to, and feel reasonable safe in the car i'm driving. just my .02 Zip. |
pit rules
Im glad to hear about the exhaust rule for the generators. Im so tired of the jerkwad running there generac, noisy clunking generator into my pit area. If every body would have set them up in front of the trailer pointed away from everybody it would help. and those ones on a slide out Ive shoved right back into the guys trailer. hint: they get in the way of the other guys pit space. everybody wants respect, great, try show some first.
