What would you do ?
 

I sold a set of used Diamond pistons for a 555 I had on ebay. I called my motor guy (ho purchased these pistons new from diamond) to make sure he didnt do anything to the piston, he said nope all good. I took to a local shop to double check what they were I even called Diamond got the same #'s I got from the other 2 places. Put them on ebay sell them, guy buys them gets them 2 days later says comp height is not what I said (1.270) he says 1.250 , I told him to double check he then tells me 1.125. Sends them back to me and wants his $ back, which I am fine doing if I was wrong, but do I take the time to take them to another shop and get them checked. When I know they are going to say what the other shops have said. I have perfect feedback and first thing he said when emailing me was, he didnt want to mess up my rating and wanted his money back. Which I didnt care for. What would you guys do ? Just give him his money back and be done with the guy or check them again and send them back (another $30.00) when they check out ok ? We arent talking a ton of money but enough $300.00.

If he's gotten two differant measurements in 2 tries and they are .125" differant ... My guess would be he has NO idea how to measure Comp. Height.

Personally .. I would give the guy his money back, he's not worth the hassle and you'll probably never be able to prove to him that the CH is in fact 1.270".

If you want to give him another try ... ask him what CH he is looking for .. exactly ... and have him take them to a shop and make the measurement ( and give you contact info to that shop ) and if they measure at 1.270 then he pays all the extra shipping / measuring cost.

Myself ... I'd count my losses and move on

nah hammer, dcar gives it right, give him his money back and get rid
of him, seems he will make another excuse not to buy them, you
will hassel with this guy and then the postings of his transaction
with the pistons and then "scammer" will appear and just
get messy. then you'll think, i should have just got rid of him. 8)

Give him his money back and then leave him negative feedback. What can he say negative about you after you give a refund? If he tries to bash you for leaving the negative fb You will still look like a stand up guy for refunding the money when he was wrong and you were right.

Hammer ya just get rid of him it want be worth the hassle and all the crap he will try to put on you.

If he would have called diamond they would have told him the right comp.hgt from the part no#

I just went thru about the same thing last week with a guy that wanted a 11.1 piston the shop that was doing the work on his engine called and gave me the part no# for a je/srp piston witch says's it is 11.6 so he started throwing a fit that it wasn't what he wanted.

I told him thats what the machine shop ordered and with the piston being down in the hole it was 11.1 be he sent them back because they 11.6

tried to tell him that they are measured at zero deck but i just refunded his money and went on.
No need to try to please them all Cant be done.

David, anybody that measures 1 1/4 once and 1 1/8 the next time you are beating your head against a wall to convince him what they are. The wife probably found out he spent the money and he is trying to get it back however he can.

I agree cut your losses, and forget about the person. He obviously doesn't know how to measure the compression ht. I too have lot's of dealing on ebay 100% positive, i wouldn't leave any feedback just sell them another day.

Hammer, make sure this guy sends you back that same pistons. Not trying to tell you how to do your deals but, ya never know he may be trying to pull a fast one ya!!

Thanks for all of your input guys. I have good pictures and all #'s off the piston and I will make sure they are the same bore. I've yet to refund him his $ but plan on doing it this weekend to avoid the negative feedback. Problem I am sure I'll run into is do I refund him his shipping both ways ? I am already out ebay fee's but do I bite the bullet and be out another $60.00 on the all the shipping ? I feel giving him his $300.00 for pistons that he just decided he didnt want is more the good.

Sorry David, I think its a lose-lose situation for You. Even if You give the money back, and all of the shipping cost, to him its a win. After all this, He may still bash You about wasting his time and trying to sell something it was not. GOD LUCK,TC

What really gets me here is this .. I got the pistons back this week checked compression height and go 1.27 again, I emailed him and told him. I get on ebay tonight I have positive feedback and says this
" items as described,prompt shipping "

ok if item is as described why do I now have them back with me ??

maybe he screwed up and didn't NEED the 1.27 comp height, and that was his way of getting his money back.

I'll give you $50 for them and they'll be out of your hair. If you think about it, it's a Win-Win for you. You get $50 buck to take the lady out to dinner with plus you get the shelf space :lol:

Todd thats exactly what happened, he just wanted an excuse to return them, He left you Pos feedback hoping you'de do the same. Out of Curiosity what was/is his Feedback rating?

Ty his feedback rating is 9, he messeged me again last night trying to explain how to check comp height (which I already know) and tells me another # ... I told him to send me a paypal request I was tired of dealing with him, he purchased something that he cant use and should be a little more careful on ebay. The kicker of the deal is I am now going to leave him negative feedback, I would have left it alone if he did but he already left me good feedback so I have no worries about the deal, he got what he paid for and either didnt have have the money or didnt know what he needed.

Just a update on this deal (and my thoughts on paypal)

He filed a claim with paypal and I decided I wasnt going to let this guy screw me over. I stated to them what he had said in his ebay feedback he left for me and what he said in the emails. After 34 days they finally said he will get his $ back, for this reason the day before he filed the claim he went and shipped them back. Paypal says anyone who buys something from anyone and sends it back to the orginal owner will always win the dispute no matter what.

My thoughts and the lady at paypal agreed with me that this guy had did this before he knew to send it back before he filed a claim. I appealed the dispute just because I think this was a case of the guy didnt have the money to spend. Now he will wait another 30 days if he indeed gets his $ back. The problem he has is he tried to clean ( I think ) the pistons up and looks like he used a grinder on them instead of some cleaner. Which appears to have happened to 2 pistons.

My thoughts also !! I told paypal so you indeed are helping the bad people in the world scam money is that what your saying. In fact the first paypal person hung up on me, 2nd time I called I asked for the person in charge.

Give the money back to him. We have been on Ebay for 8 years, 99.3 rating. Would be 100 if not for a two dollar pair of earrings and a cookie jar my wife bought in the first month of us being on Ebay. We sell under hollowayshotrods. Keep your excellent rating, we wish we had. I really do wish RJ would install a rating system like that. I agree with the others, couldn't use them, so lets make up something to return them. Just my thoughts.
