Corvette Motor

Awhile back there was a thread about this on Yellow Bullet. It sorta made me laugh so I thought I would be a copycat and start one here to get some opinions... Why in the heck do people think this is anything special? Seems every 350 for sale is a "corvette motor"

As someone in the other thread said, there must be a massive "Corvette junkyard" somewhere. ..or millions or corvettes are missing their original engines.

hollowayshotrods 07-11-2009 06:52 PM

I got one of them Tod! I know it is, because it has finned aluminum valve covers and the man at the flea market said it is :!:

MEMRACING62 07-11-2009 06:56 PM

HEY!! I WILL BET MY OLD PICK UP TRUCK HAS ONE TOO!!

Tod74 07-11-2009 06:58 PM

One guy said his 350 wasn't a corvette motor...but it came from a Cop Car!!

fla1976 07-11-2009 07:14 PM

Motor

My engine is a 1989 truck 350. Nothing exceptional, but it is a 4 bolt main.

dragonmaster093 07-11-2009 08:54 PM

mines a 350 early style (2 pc rear seal) 4 bolt main but i do have a factory 70s gm aluminum intake in garage bet if i put it o and say out corvette i could make a fortune ( part number say it was a corvette option )

Tod74 07-12-2009 04:13 PM

A ranchero with a vette motor...SUPER RARE.

Usually Ford guys tell you they have "Police Interceptor" motors or HO 5.0

lively 07-12-2009 07:16 PM

I think it was an option in 63

THERATTLER 07-12-2009 08:52 PM

:D I had an old corvette one time with NO motor  I think one of these guys must have it .

Tod74 07-12-2009 09:03 PM

Sorta off topic but ...I used to work with a guy, (I'll call him Jim,) who was one of those guys we all know...you know the one who doesn't want to give you anything for a car or part..but once HE OWNS it it is suddenly rare and worth big bucks. He is also the type that would screw you in a heartbeat and laugh about it later..WE all know this type of guy at some point. Well my dad and I were at a swap meet and there he was. He had a booth with various parts for sale. Some sort of nerdy looking guy was looking at some BBC Exhaust manifolds. Jim walks over and says "Yeah those are real good ones.Came off a 69 Chevelle SS396" the guy looks up and says "They're off a truck." The Dude knew what he was looking at andthe fact that my Dad and I were standing there watching JIM stumble and blubber around looking like a fool, trying to act like he hadn't just tried to lie to the guy was priceless.

TheRabbit 07-13-2009 04:30 AM

Off a truck! Priceless!! I don't know schitte about any production parts. What little I know about factory stuff is BBF which I outgrew years ago. I just don't have a need for any OEM parts.

Harbone 07-13-2009 05:07 AM

they were actually off an 69 C/10 SS396, even MORE rare than the corvette 350!!!

outlaw256 07-13-2009 05:20 AM

since everyone has a vette motor, id like to know where all the regular 350's are at. i bet i could pick those up cheap!

RonOwensRacing 07-13-2009 09:02 AM

Don't forget all those 302 boss motors that is in every mustang out there.

When most people have never seen a boss engine.

I went to the ford show in Columbus Ohio a couple of years ago with a friend of mine and i think everybody there selling parts had one they just sold .

FullTimeRacing 07-13-2009 11:32 AM

i have a 81-85 block (not a corvette),but it has more power than one.Go figure

TheYellaBrick 07-13-2009 11:49 AM

Now, the ULTIMATE combo would be a Corvette with a small block Mopar !!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

TheRabbit 07-13-2009 11:52 AM

Well I was kinda thinking the perfect combo would be a Vette motor in a Vette!! :D I loved my dark blue '99. SHOULD HAVE NEVER SOLD IT!! :( I love the 2006 Z06!! They actually have Vette motors in them too!! LOL. This thread is getting better and better!

That would surely drive some corvette enthusiast to suicide.

Tod74 07-13-2009 02:18 PM

My car came factory with a 350 and a 2 barrel. I tell people it had a Corvette motor with a Malibu Carburator.

Tod74 07-20-2009 04:00 PM

LOL....another Corvette has been devalued by someone taking the engine.

Does the trailer have the corvette engine or the boat?

Odd you say that, I actually had that thought. I have emailed him asking for the casting numbers on the block and heads, I can't wait for the reply!
STILL LMAOOOOO :!:

TheRabbit 07-20-2009 05:27 PM

I never really paid much attention other than smirk a little when someone would say "it has a Vette motor" until this thread. I'm supprised any vettes still have their motors in 'em. I had an older lady work for me and she swore her new Impalla SS had a Vette motor in it from the factory. My thought was if it came from the factory with this motor isn't it an Impalla motor?!! BTW. She was from Fl and her tag # was SSMAMA! lol

TS1955 07-20-2009 05:33 PM

Went to Sears today & bought me a new riding lawn motor. Guess what...the dang thing has a Corvette motor in it. LOL!!!

Let me guess it had a 3/4 cam in it also ?

TS1955 07-20-2009 05:59 PM

bjuice...that's scary...How did ya know?

TS1955

supergass 07-31-2009 06:57 PM

AWWWW B Juice you stole my line!!! Nothing to be dreaded more than a Corvette motor with a 3/4 race cam. Well except one with a full race cam of course!!! Im a chevy guy but the people who live by these phrases really show there depth and knowledge really quick! I have heard about more 9sec 55 chevys with a 327 and 4 speed than there was ever built. Of course who ever had it doesnt have it now!

supergass 07-31-2009 07:03 PM

X2 with the BOSS 302 and the 428 police interceptor. The original Boss looks like a CLeveland! To bad they only made so few of them, it would have been alot more fun to have some rivalries in the neighborhoods if they didnt get themselves or anyone else hurt wouldnt it! You know.....fun!

Tod74 07-31-2009 09:03 PM

All joking aside...I know someone on here must KNOW the origin of the phrase "3/4 cam" ZIP what about you? You been around a looooooong time. Seriously, is it just some made up crap or was there ever a cam marketed as a 3/4 cam?

TheRabbit 08-02-2009 04:15 PM

If there was a 3/4 cam no way you guys up North ever had a chance to buy one cause everybody in the south had one. You could put one in any car, truck or go cart back in the 80's. Wish I still had mine!! LOL.

Tod74 08-02-2009 05:23 PM

We weren't interested because we were too busy inventing the 13/16 cam

TheYellaBrick 08-02-2009 06:51 PM

I hear tell that 3/4 cams were actually straight 8 cams just shortened up a tad
