Anyone having problems with UPS Shipping.

UPS totally destroyed my shipment I received today. The truck driver even said the box the items were shipped in was mutilated. I almost rejected the shipment, but when the driver stated that the order was insured, I accepted it.

They dropped this crank so hard that it busted a hunk of metal off the end of the crank.

Anyone needing a high end Callies Crank thats shot to craps?? LOL

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced any of similar losses....

OneBadGMC 08-27-2009 03:34 PM

United Parcel Smashers.

TheYellaBrick 08-27-2009 03:34 PM

Was this a brand new unit from Callies ? If so, you'd think that they'd ship them in a heavy duty dedicated shipping box made of wood or heavy duty plastic ala JAZ 9" Ford punkin boxes.
From a Callies Dealer it shoulda been sent in a custom built wooden shipping box, PERIOD. There's not a cardboard box made that can protect a heavy chunk of precision iron like a crankshaft.

MEMRACING62 08-27-2009 04:21 PM

X2, shipper bears some part of the blame , should be in some kind of crate designed to hold the crank.

slowmotion 08-27-2009 04:40 PM

I've always had good luck with UPS. Great, now I cursed myself.

ashbros 08-27-2009 04:56 PM

create was built to withstand most perils, but not what this shipment went through. I think it was dropped off sears tower.... imagine that...

i tried to file Claim with Fed Ex One time...Same thing happened with them.. they dropped my box and bent and destroyed a blower idler Pulling etc..the Blower was 1/2 hanging out of the Box when they drug if off the truck...Un-real........what i didn't know is that they send the refund back to the shipper..if its an honest Seller you bave No problems..if its a shaky seller..weeeeeellll thats another story (from experience).........but at a minimum they make it a HUGE HASSLE to get your money back.

Needless to say i was fair as always and only filed the claim for $200 just to replace the idler pulley ..they sent the check to the Seller and i never saw anything........i just chalked it up as a Loss and moved on.

Good Luck Ash

About 4 years ago I shipped an entire pop up display for a 10x10 booth at a convention.

Shipped from my business in Belleville out to Vegas. Got there perfectly. Shipped it back with Fedex (same that shipped it out there), and when it got back, there was a huge gash in the container (meant for shipping the display), with tire marks in it.

I $hit you not, someone let it fall off a dock (by appearances) and then ran it over with a tractor trailer.

They delivered it like that, and the gal who brought it into my store looked at me like there was nothing wrong. She dropped it off and said "See ya tomorrow". I told her "You just hang on there. You're not going anywhere just yet."

They would up buying me a new 2,000.00 display unit after ruining my old one (this was the second convention it went to from the point I bought it).

They all have their flaws. Seems though that UPS has more than the others.

B Juice, I hate to hear that the sender has control of the final payment. Were talking a few thousand bucks to replace. :(

I have delt with the sender one other time in the past and it looks as if I am the one whos out until this matter gets resolved.

Anyone know how long it might take to resolve the issue?????

What would you do if you were the sender...????? Or, what would you expect from the sender????????

Anyone have any suggestions???????

UPS dropped my package at the wrong house a year or so ago...Then they wanted me to go knock on the guy's door and ask him if he had my stuff. Summitt sent another package I don't know who paid for it...wasn't me.

ARUSSELL 08-28-2009 07:18 AM

We ship a ton of pistons and have done tests with our boxes, droping at 10 feet, throwing, and smashing. It takes a lot to damage a piston inside, and still get damaged parts. Sometimes half of the box and half the psitons are missing when the customer recieves.

TheYellaBrick 08-28-2009 07:48 AM

[b]Sounds like it's time someone came out with a line of crush proof shipping boxes made of HD plastics. Maybe ME !! Any input on this ?

Those are good. The Army uses those and they put at least 6" of foam inside to protect the part. I havent seen any of the containers get broken yet. Just scratched.

shybx1969 08-28-2009 10:03 AM

That crank shouldve been in a custom wooden crate!!!!Thank god for insurance!!!!!But its still a pain in the @@##$$$....

I deal with UPS all day long being in the parts business. 9 times out of 10 its just poor packaging. We have stuff show up that would have been better off place in a paper sack! I do have a good story though, I ordered a primary belt drive kit for my buddy on ebay and paid for it. 2 weeks later its still a no show so I call the company I bought it from, they track it and say UPS lost it and are shipping me another one. The new one shows up and about 2 weeks after that theres a beat all to hell box sitting on my porch. It was the first one that got lost! I never got billed, I split the $1000 cost of the first one with my buddy and got a BDL belt drive on my bike for half price.

That's stealing in my opinion. Not trying to offend you ,just saying...

Harbone 08-28-2009 01:45 PM

Not really. The company I bought it from was paid in full by UPS on their original claim so they were out nothing. If I had tried to ship it back to them they would have been ahead of the game since they were paid by me and UPS. The box looked like it had been around the world and back. I tossed it in the back of my garage for almost 90 days just waitin to see if UPS or BDL would ever contact me, they never did. There was no signature for the delivery since I am rural and the box was just left on my porch. UPS screwed up, paid for it. Their loss, my gain...

gearhead1011 08-28-2009 02:39 PM

I would agree with Todd. That's dishonest. If you contacted the sender or the shipper and told them it showed up and they told you to keep it that would be different. I had something like that happen to me a couple of years ago but it was a fairly inexpensive package. I called the guy that I ordered it from and he said it wouldn't be worth the trouble to get it back so I kept it.

Ash this is how they handled it at Fed-Ex....If i were you i would contact seller and tell them what has happned and confirm Insurance was obtained when they shipped the crank.

Also assure seller its nothing out of His pocket..if a claim is ever paid.

Fed-Ex said they would have a rep in touch with me in 7 to 10 days t..they said DO NOT throw away any of the original packaging etc...the rep is checking to see if the items was packaged improperly etc....

So yes its gonna take a few weeks...but i would start with getting a Buy in from the Seller to assure they will do the right thing...and at the same time file the claim.

again the seller will be out Nothing..

hope this helps...sorry this happened to you..my damage was very minor compared to yours..

also many people don't Know the insurance payment goes to the seller if a claim is filed and paid...but if you stop and think about it the seller is actually the one who is paying for the insurance when they ship the item...not the Buyer

It is no different than when a girl at the cash register accidentally gives you change for a 20 when you only gave her a ten. At the end of the day she has to pay for her mistake when her drawer is short. I have had this happen more than once and I have always told the person. If you don't, that is your business. In my mind it's wrong.

TheYellaBrick 08-28-2009 03:41 PM

Sorry bone, I gotta agree with Tod on this one. I won't go to the extent of calling you a thief but will say that next time you need to do what's right even if ya gotta hang on to it for a month or two. IMHO. I also have had the same thinmgs happen but did contact the shipper and give them an option to take the part back and 9 times out of 10 they tell me to keep it, not worth the effort/cost to take it back.

Tod74 08-28-2009 04:01 PM

I didn't mean to come across as calling him a thief..I realize I said it was stealing, but I am not trying to put him down.I am speaking of my own feelings on how I would handle it.What he does is his business.

Harbone 08-28-2009 04:03 PM

thanks todd...

bjuice 08-29-2009 09:37 AM

I think that came down to a Judgement call for individuals to Make (one on one)..i think Cris is FAR from a thief....he just drew his own conclusion's and that is an individual thing in this type situation.

had this happen to me with Jegs a few years back..i didn't get my stud and center cap kit for my New spindle Mount wheels.........called them up and they sent them....but sent them Twice...i called the shipping department back and advised them and they said just keep it ..it wouldn't be worth sending a pickup lable to have it picked up...this was about a $30.00/40.00 Kit Retail.

Last year I shipped a brand new fully machined Brodix block to a customer. I insured it or so i thought for $4000.00. the block arrived with the front valley portion missing. the Brodix shipping container looked like a fork lift went through it.
After filing a claim UPS denied it saying the shipping box was inadequate. sure it was, never was designed to stop a fork lift. After calling all the way up the line to the UPS Chief of operations i was told that what i paid for was NOT insurance it was a declared value. after some INTERNET investigation I found UPS owns the insurance company and all high dollar claims are denied. there are hundreds of stories like mine out there.
I was finally told by UPS to take them to court if I wanted but the lawyer costs would exceed what they wouldn't pay me.
I turned it in to my insurance company which paid for the block less my $1000.00 deductible.
I will never ship anything with a high value by UPS again. Bill
