legends car

we just bought a legends car with a yamaha 1100 engine and converting it to drag car for our 14 year old son has anyone else ever drag raced a legends car if so how did it work out ?

An 1100 cc powered car with as short a wheelbase as a Legends can be dangerously fast and squirrely for a young inexperienced driver let alone an experienced adult. IMHO

thanks he has been in a jr dragster sense he was five and have made 100 or more passes in his moms z28 which runs 7's in the 1/8 i have all the faith he can drive the car he got his first motorcycle at 3 and drives every peice of equiment here on the farm but thanks for your concern

VERY GOOD !!
That would be a real cool car to run brackets with if your track permitted it. I'd check with them first before building it . IMHO

i have and they have told me to line him up and let him go as long as the person in the other lane does not object its run what you got he works for the track every sat year round <lol plays>

Have fun !! I can foresee more Legends, Bandelero's, and such working their way onto the strips across the country. Even if limited to 1/8 mile and run with the Jr rails....

Don't know much about Legends cars, but i would venture to say "slow down the steering". And don't burnout across the starting lines.

ran the car yesterday evening testing ran 7.10 in 1/8 and yes very very squirley gonna place bumpster and go with a little more weight in car but over all good test session

I agree on slowing the steering down !
Dial all the positive caster in that you can for high speed stability.

thanks talking with a guy from willys rods and racers gonna reduce valve size on rack but thanks for advice

Wouldn't they place that car in the 4 wheelers class since it has such a short wheelbase. Here at Twin Cities they have lots of 4 wheelers that race. Also i think if it's not an outlaw track, meaning not NHRA or IHRA, because i think the wheelbase limit with them is 90" min.

Just asking.

Zip.

Not just slow the steering down, but FIRST place a LOT of CASTER in both sides equally, so the wheels will naturally point straight down the track.
If the car was set up for circle track you would be amazed at the Ackerman, Bump Steer and geometry difference you will find betwen each side. You might even have to relocate one or both upper a-arm mounts back to achieve at least a 3 to 6 degree CASTER in both sides.

reduced both valves in the rack from 1.3 to 0.75 placed 200 lbs more weight ran 7.03 three times in a row with a 1.38 60 ft time we are a open race track here they will let you run a lawnmower if you wanna lol kid wants to run 6.50's in it in the 1/8  also got a jr dragster alky car for sale with lots of parts and trailer
thanks for all your advice

I'm all for kids racing.I have one that started in mini stocks at 12 years old and dirt late model at 13. My problem with that is if a fullsize car is in the othe lane and hits him it could be bad. Sounds like if they'll let him make a pass in his mom's car he should be racing a fullsize raccar and just keep stepping the engine up as you go. Be smart and keep him safe but let him have fun!
