EXPLANATION BELOW.

Ok, guys this is James, Anthony's dad. 1st off this is not Midsouthhotrodz is at it again. This is the 1st time anyone has ever posted anything about Anthony before and it sure don't have anything to do with Jason. I also think we need facts before we all jump to things. Every post I have ever read on here you guys always ask for details and I did not see anyone asking for details. I will gladly give you all the details. As most of you know I do not get into the fourm and I am always stright up when I am on here. Now the Facts!

Anthony traded for the Astro Van, The guy told him all this bull about what the engine had in it. They sent him pics and all kinds of Stuff.

They brought the van late at night and it was raining. I should have checked it out better then before they left but to be honest I was mad and did not like the van to start with so I did not look at it. That is my fault.

The next day I looked at the van and I looked at the pics and I told Anthony that the guy had changed the intake and carb. I looked to see if it looked like the engine had been changed.

It did not look to have been changed.

The van had a trans line leaking and blowing on the header so I was not gonna drive it.

He posted the van on RJ he put that it had a 406 in it. It did not put anything else that the guy is saying is not true.

The guy offered him a camaro. They agreed to a deal.

The guy called me Sat, and asked me if I cared for them trading. i said I did not. he asked me about the engine. I told him it did not look to have been changed but I did not know. I told him I did know that the carb and intake had been changed. He asked did it have a Msd box and I told him I did not think so. When he got here. Anthony told him to go over and check out the van and he said I am not worried about it I wanna get back home can you drive it on the trailer. After a few min talking. (very nice guy I might add) He ask me to show him where the trans line was leaking. I did. He saw a sticker that said MSD and he said see it probaly does still have the MSD under the dash somewhere, I said IDK. He left. he messaged back tonight saying the van had a 305 in it and no oil stick. Anthony messaged him back and said I am sorry I did not know what do I need to do to make it right? Anthony asked him to give him a call because we don't have his # he said I don't have anything to talk to you about. I have all the messages to prove I am telling the truth. I am not saying it is someone elses fault I am saying he should try to work it out if you have a problem before posting. This is not jason I try to do what is right and I try to teach anthony that. I did tell Anthony not to put 406 because he did not know that for sure.

He and I have traded many times on here and not one thing bad about us except that he is kind to jason. I don't think someone should start posting until you try to work it out if you have a problem. Just what I think.

From the messages it appears that Anthony would be willing to make it right. My question is; Why did Anthony put in his ad (I read it) that it had a 406 in it if you advised him not to? I would be EXTREMELY pissed if some sold/traded me a car with a 305 instead of the 406 advertised. I am by no means taking sides here (yet), would like to hear the complete story before I take sides.

I agree with that, he thought it was a 406 and I also did too but I told him not to post something you are not sure about, but I told the man on the phone personally (not Anthony) that I knew some stuff had been changed and he asked did I think the engine had been changed and I told him I did not think so but I did not know. But you are right We will try to make it right but there is no sence in all of this until he has give him a chance to make it right but I will be Honest it kinda makes you not as fired up to make something right when someone starts off cusing you and calling you names and won't call you or give you a # to talk about it.

I agree he sure could have approached it a bit differently!

I just found out that the guy sending the messages is not even the guy he traded with. the guy he traded with was A very nice older gentleman and that is his grandson sending the massages. I am going to try again tomorrow to contact the guy he traded with and see if I can get a # to call him. Thanks Again and Please be open minded until the final result. I am not kind to Jason (my wife is) I was raised to do the right thing and I always try to do that..lol

Sounds to me like the man should have checked before he left I mean where the man lives is just to far to not check it to make sure its legit!! I mean if I drove hundreds of miles I'd be looking at the vehicle more closely. Just me though. I'm not taking sides but if the man really wanted to either trade back or fix it somehow he'd call first and get the other side of the story. Now and Anthony should have not listed it as a 406 unless he knew for sure. One more example of mis communication and just pure ingorance. But thats just my opinion.

Seth you are partly right but I think this fourm should be for adults. Although I think you made some good points I had rather keep this between adults, This is just my opinion but I think the fourm is for adults. I do not allow Anthony to post in the forum and I don't think you should be posting in here either. I am not trying to be smart but that is how I feel.

why don't anybody check block casting numbers anymore? its easy, all the info is available on the internet. common sense people...

I am told it get a 406 & I get a "305" ... almost one of the worst V8's I can think of. that is a problem... but there should be some due diligence applied on BOTH sides. Harb brings up a good point: check the cast numbers at time of sale. I work in the Archery buisness. If I sell a bow to someone & say it is 70lbs @ 337fps, it better be 70lbs & make speed when they get it!! They will find out anyways. It will get weighed & chronographed. If it doesn't, I AM AT FAULT. I will replace that bow... We have seen this too many times on here. As long as we learn from it, then I think it is a valuable lesson for many. In these days, we can pull the numbers off the block right then, google it on a phone, & there you have it... all the info a person needs. We have the technology to prevent these things from happening... even if there is no internet capable phone at the time. The buyer has some responsibility in this too. It is not like the buyer bought this rig "sight unseen". I mean, if we listen to everything we hear & believe it, we are in BIG trouble. That is like saying we believe that Obama promotes "Hope".... or that he is good for our economy.

ok I want everyones imput on this. 1st time Anthony talked to him today he wanted $2000. next time he wants a 406 engine, Anthony told him he know someone that had one the guy said he did not want that one he wanted one that his cousin had that had all forged stuff in it. They have gone back and forth all day now i am lost..lol Here is what I think.

(1) I do not believe the van had a bone stock 305 in it. I never drove the van but I did launch it off in the driveway a couple of times. I have videos of it running whatever it was it was not stock. I do understand u can put a big cam in a 305 and make it sound good.

(2) The guy asked Anthony several times on the phone about the engine. He told him to look at the freeze plugs, The way the astro van was made you could not see them because of the way the engine sat in it. he asked me about the balancer. I told him it was not a 400 balancer that is was a aftermarket fluid dampaner. (it was) I told him that the intake and carb had been changed, I also told him that I did not think that the engine had been changed because the bolts that held the radiator support did not look like they had been out since the van was painted and that is the only way to get the motor out of the van. the only reason I am saying this is if the guy had doubts about the engine why didn't he look at it when he got here? Anthony asked him to go over and check out the van and he said I am not worried about the van I used to have one and I want another one. I don't care about checking it out. Ok, with that said I am not saying it is his fault. I am saying there are 4 people to blame if the van did have a different engine in it. 1st off the guy Anthony gut the van from changed alot of stuff on it, I do know that for sure and that is my fault for not looking but they got here with it about 8pm and it was raining and I had already told Anthony not to trade for the van and I did not like it. I think if the engine had been changed it is also Anthony's and my fault for not running the numbers to make sure what the engine was but again I never messed with it much because I did not like it, last I think part of the blame goes to the guy who got it for not looking when he had doubts about it. I could see if he bought it sight unseen and had a shipper bring it he would not be at fault at all.

(3) I think Anthony should make it right that is his deal but buying the guy a new engine from his cousin who we do not know I think is going way behond doing the right thing. i think buying a motor at all is going way to far. Anthony has a adjustable NOS kit with 2 bottles and adjust up to 500 shot. I told him to give it to the guy and call it even. I think that is fair. I want everyones opinion good or bad. I am a big boy I can take it if u guys think I am wrong..lol very big guy if you count wide.. nit very tall but very wide ...lol

(4) I know I have wrote a book here but there is so much more to this story but i am going to stop please let me know what u guys thing. Yes you too seth..lol

I am not sure it is a 496 how can I tell what it is. I could be a 396 I do not know. i do know there are alot of things about the car that are not what he said but it does feel strong but I will bet money it wont run what he said and I know it wont with the mickey thompson Sportsman tires that are on it. They won't hook nothing.

Now is it me or would you trade I know I wouldn't have traded a 496 BBC Camaro thats supposed to run in the 5's for a 1988 Astro Van with a 406(305)!!!

Sounds a little to good to be true I'd get the car checked out!!! Or is this man just found out he has an ugly a** van with a 305 and found out he got the sour end of the pickle!!!! And wishes he wouldn't have traded!!!

I keep reading these threads and there is a common theme; someone didnt represent this or that correctly and now they have to make it right.

Indeed you should represent the car to the best of your knowledge and say so, and here is a really unique idea- How about a Bill of sale. You can download one off the web or even the DMV and all you need to do is add wording that says the buyer had the right to inspect and is accepting the vehicle in "as is" condition. And it doesnt have to be notarized, it can be witnessed.

Its not that big of a deal and I know that typing it in MS WORD is not a challenge as everyone can bang the keyboards on this forum.

If you dont sell the vehicle with a piece of paper confirming the deal and protecting yourself; then really who should you blame?

It is about a 3 hour drive (not far at all) I agree about a bill of sale saying the buyer can inspect the car but I have been trading cars for 25 years and I have owned over 300 cars and I am not gonna say I never had a problem but very, very few. Most people know to look at a car and I always tell everyone everything I know about a car but if you trade on alot of cars there is no way to know everything about every car and this was not my car or my deal I am just trying to help him out. As for the van I agree also but that is the deal this guy had a V-8 astro van before and wanted another one really bad, He wanted it so bad he did not wanna check out anything. Anthony asked him to look at the van and check it out. I was standing right there. He said I am not worried about the van I just want another van I don't care what it needs or don't need I need to get it loaded and get back home. So what do you do????????

But we still haven't heard his side yet so can't really tell you anything til we hear both sides!!! JMO yall need to go talk to Obama he can help :lol: :lol:

well good luck with that , did you or did you not look the van over before you traded?? if not then you have only yourself to blame. ..a trade is something both parties have to agree to do after you look at each others stuff and are satisfied.. seems all engine numbers should have been checked before the trade took place , easy as pie. I bet the FBI jumps all over this one full force. JMO

Damn pete, you make it hard for a guy to understand you from your lack of ending a sentence and using just a little puncuation. We all know about Selmer, Tn. I can't say all folks from Selmer are bed, but we do know of at least one. Good luck in getting this settled.
