ive noticed outta the 5 or 6 in the area that i can get good service in one but its 35 miles away. local one when some one finally helps they are rude and give you the wrong part went it to get a set of valve covers for a friend for his sbc kept trying to tell me the one for a sbf were the same had to take him out to the parking lot and show him the difference because the "box was labeled wrong and he knew they were right" man has he ever pissed
|
I can't say they all suck, but there is one right by my house and I drive right by it and go to other stores a few miles away. They almonst never have what I want and when they do it takes way TOO LONG TO GET CHECKED OUT. Even if there is only one or two other people in the store I have to stand at the counter and wait for somebody to get to the register and finally take my money.
|
cant say the people that work there suck.....they cant sell what they dont have....the major chains compete ( pimp boys, autozone, etc) on the same stocked items...if one doesn't stock it none of them will. around here shops mainly deal with napa, carquest, & bumper to bumper dealers.....major chain stores are for air fresheners & floor mats..

what does engine size have to do with windshield wipers

It's not just the service at Auto Zone that sucks, you otta try working there. I worked there once, never again. It was worse than being in the Army. Too many stupid rules for me.
|
its funny when you ask for a part and the ask what motor and its not an option in the computer. it takes the whole crew to get that window switch :D :D :D

My main supplier of non original equiptment parts for my dealership is Bumper to Bumper. The store is a strictly wholesale operation, theres no fu-fu crap at the counter. Its all done out of a warehouse with no "retail" area. They still sell to mechanics and such but Biff isnt going in there to buy a pollen filter for his BMW!

Same here, went in to pic up a 18 pound elect oil pressure sending unit for my low pressure light on the dragster, they aske the year, told them it didn't matter, dud said he needed a year make and model with engine size, was clueless when I said 98 Danny Nelson with a 498, ended going to napa and got what I needed.

We have AZone here too...
We also have a local NW chain for auto parts here as well. "I am sorry sir , but the computer program only goes back to "1969"... I can only go back to 1969... that is what I was told by one of the "experts" once. Tell you what a kid, lets take a risk & keep our fingers crossed that the 180 thermostat will work on the "1968" too... I will keep my reciept... LOL. |
Autozone
I must have gotten lucky,They dont always have what I want But the Manager is super Knowledgable & he will try every thing possible to get it..As for the counter help,They have to learn,How many of you guys know an experienced mechanic willing to sell parts for Min.Wage??At least they are working & your not supporting them,Thats a plus..JMO
|
Yep, count yourself lucky there, pat.
|
Im getting to the point were i look up part numbers online, then go to the i call generic parts stores....Napa usually gives me good service/knowledge/curtesy.....Auto Zone is usually some kid whos talking to his girlfriend on the phone...who really doesnt give a shit whether ive got the rite part or not....unless im buying some chrome piece/part for my tuner car....or if my hat is turned sidways.... :(
|
i was a counterman for 25 yrs. at different stores.all but one were private owned, not corporate stores.when i first moved to alabama i went to work for autozone as a asst. manager.(i needed a job right then). they do not care about cars or you .what they do care about is moving inventory fast.they didnt keep many hardparts.you do not need to know about cars all you need to do is be aBLE TO READ AND ASK QUESTIONS. every one of the boys that i worked with came out of fast food restarants.not one of them boys owned or cared about cars or hotrods. i quit after 3 months and went to work for napa.no more wal mart parts stores for me.now that i cant work i still wont go to autozone or advance.or any corporate owned store.

auto junk
just gotta rember you get what you pay for try to find a small independent store and you will usually get decent service. good luck.

they did this with a brake hose too So you feel good about stealing! They may not be the best parts store to shop at but stealing is stealing. Carma sucks. People do make mistakes and it takes a better man to let someone know than to steal. JMO |

Guys it sounds to me that he didnt steal.
What I got from his post that each set was 110 bucks and so he took what he didnt need back and got his money back for the ones he didnt need BUT still paid for the ones he used. JMO |
Yea, He says SOME of his 110 back :!:
|
my fav, does it have a/c WTF!!
|
The way i look at it is that if the shocks cost 110.00 then when he took back the ones he didnt use he shouldn't have got any money back because he left the part store with 4 but only paid for 2 if he and the part store were under the understanding there were only one shock per box. The way I read the post was that he got some of his money back. I feel if I'm understanding correctly he shouldn't have got any money back.

JMO I think we're both understanding it differently. I'm reading and understanding that he paid $110 for 2 shocks and he left the store with 2 boxes, thinking he only had 2 shocks. When he got home and found that there was 2 in each box, which means he got 4 but only paid for 2, he should of just taken a box back to the part store and not have got any money back because he was willing to pay $110 for 2 shocks. Again JMO. |
They must have got something figured out , or else they would have given all the money back. He could have just brought them back for a full refund.
We can look for a tall tree but, let's not hang him yet  |
HERES the REAL answer !
LOL I think all you young guys don't know that this way of doing business is self destructive. BUT its not really the counter guys fault. With exception to the rudness and arrogance some have. I am an old guy. I remember clocks with hands...LOL The saying back when the digital stuff starting to become popular was. At 3:45 these kids will never know how many minutes it is until 4:00 or how many minutes it is after 3:30. All they know is it is 3:45. I think this has finally become true. If anyone frequents any of the fast food chains take a look at the cash regester. The buttons have pictures of burgers, drinks, etc. The order taker simply takes your money and doesn't have to count change {Thank GOD}. The computer does all the math and even places the order in the back so the grille/microwave person can read it. This is the same technology we are forced with when we go into a Auto Zone type store. The kid doesn't know anything about cars. His job is to ask you questions that his computer is telling him it needs. Step by step....LOL Its a crying shame. Those kids have no interest in anything other than a pathetic pay check, and if their cell phone is working. And they are not getting nor do they seem to want to learn anything at all. Its all big business. The people are easily replacable. Being the parent of a 20 yr. old son I can tell you he wears one of my boots up his keester more often than I have both on my feet. Who would have ever thought that all you had to do was match up your order for a hamburger with a picture of a hamburger on a button. Wait till its all in the computer because thats the only way the kid will ever know how much to charge you. And your in deep a$$ crap if they ever have to count change. Auto Zone and places like them are the same. Typical visit goes something like this :
Mister I know absolutely nothing about cars, engines, transmissions. I can not give you correct change, nor do I have a clue as to what on earth your talking about. I'll be right with you after I answer the 10 text messages I have, and return 3 phone calls. Then I will be glad to help you as long as you don't confuse me....LOL Thats what we are stuck with. Its supposed to be technology. Someone screwed up !!!! I am glad to mention I can tell time and know how many minutes both before and after any certain time. Heck I can even count out change correctly. And I use my cell PHONE as a phone. Not a typewriter, or game board. I don't have a clue as the real answer for this ? All I do know for sure is these kids are missing out on important lessons of life, and they will someday pay for it. |
I'm with here on that one, boy howdy.... PARENTS are no longer teaching their kids how to problem solve or to be accountable for their actions or INactions.
If and when the poop ever hits the fan, THOSE kids/adults will be FOOD for their same ilk. Eaten raw cuz NOone will be able to make a fire outa nuthin'. " U.S. country boys WILL survive." |
i like giving the cashiers extra change, that really messes them up when they work at a small country store.well the new ones anyway.like when you owe 1.73 and you give them 2.03, they look at you like wtf. love it.
|
Edspring you are right in every sences of the word. Also wanted to say is i wish i was young i have 4 daughters from 24 to 37 and 6 grandsons and having fun.
In the the past couple years i have learned more about computers than ever thought i would LOL. Robert Fla. |
