Got a promotion...

I have worked for the same company for 24 years. Started out a parts delivery driver back in 1988. became a Parts Department Manager 2 years later. I have since then been a Service & Parts Manager and a Parts Department Director. Late last year our Fixed Operations Director left the company and I kind of picked up the slack in his absence while my owner looked for a replacement. Well 3 months later he offered me the position! I used to be in charge of 14 employees and now I have almost a 100. I am in charge of 2 seperate Service and Parts Departments and one of the largest automotive dealerships in downstate Illinois. I quess it goes to show you that hard work and commitment does pay off. I came from a white trash background with just (barely) a high school education and now I am in charge of a 14 million dollar a year business. I have to thank my grandfather for showing me all I need to know about cars at a very young age and teaching me the most important thing in life, respect.

TheRabbit 04-10-2012 11:08 AM

That's good news.
It doesn't matter where you came from. It's where you're going that matters!!

great success story thanks for sharing!

Good job 'Bone !
America can use several million more just like ya !
As per the added 'responsibility', you won't have to worry about loosing yer hair to stress !

:D :D :D :D

I heard on the news that the largest percentage of hires nowadays are in the over 50year old range. Folks don't want anything to do with the 'GIMMEE' generation.

Upwardly mobility, at it's best, congrats harb.

ajk 04-11-2012 02:22 PM

Congrats Chris.
Happy for ya. Don't take your work home with ya. Takes a long time to keep that from happening but try real hard and you will be better off. I was a manager for a Global company and had 58 plus people working for me. Can be a big headache if you let it get to you.
Good luck.

Vince I learned that years ago! Of course living 62 miles from work helps, I have a hour to decompress on the way home every night! :D

and RELAXING--just hearing the tires screaching/smelling the tire smoke/ and HEARING THOSE BLASTED POLICE SIRENS trailing off in the background

My one BIG decompression will be in September. I'll be running the Silver State Classic open road race for the first time. Will be required to start in a lower class than the car was built for, as I need experience in driving at 140+ for extended periods of time. We go down for rookie qualifying in Vegas at the LV motor Speedway, a 2 mile oval. THAT will be fun ! Then race on Sunday. Next year I'll be allowed to run in Unlimited @ 200+.
I'll also get one pavement hillclimb in, in June.
