When selling a dedicated race car.....
...do you guys let it be taken for a test ride or sell 'em outright after the potential customer has thoroughly checked it out ? My thoughts are 'buy it then drive it'. What prompted this question was Juice's post in the newby thread about his T altered. |
No test rides. Maybe take it to the track and make a couple passes to prove what it will run.

Hey Mike can i take your's a couple passes :?:

No test drives, but track demonstrations are acceptable for a serious buyer. I will personally never buy a complete car again without proof that it will do what is claimed.

Would depend on the person, but probably would just take it to the track and show them what it will do. One reason for that is I can probably drive my truck faster than they will. If they make a pass that's slower than mine (or what I say it can do) they would end up putting me in the scammer section of RJ and saying my truck is not as fast as I advertised it.
I've seen it happen a few times when a guy would sell his truck ( take a deposit or verbal commitment) and race it one more time and wreck it, burn it to the ground or blow it up. If I sell mine it's parked till the buyer takes the next ride. |
cash in hand first..... :)
my friend was selling his kawasaki ninja..... person showed up to look and test ride it. they went down the street and turn the corner and crashed into 3 bikes parked out in front of the harley shop........ plus broke the frame and forks on the ninja...... |
No test drives here without cash first. They can watch me race it but they arent going to drive it without it being paid for first.

Mark Sorry. Couldn't resist, besides I owed you one. |
mike after seeing the burn out his slopar would be sold lol
sorry mark |
I would not have let this man test drive it ( ALTERED) without paying for it.It was more than a handful for the most experienced driver. Plus who says his wife would not have sued the pants off me for letting the husband behind the wheel of my car and got hurt or killed
I sold a 63 vette off this site few years back to a guy out of the country for a pretty large sum of money.and this guy was satisfied to crank it up with a 2 day inspection of the car in my shop with a certified letter of the build from suncoast chassis out of Florida...I got a call from him(buyer) about one month later telling me it scared him to death when he went to run it in the 1/4 mile..up until that time he had only been 8.80's....the vette was a potential 6.90 car.. he was talking big stuff at my house how it was gonna put it on the street ETC......I just shook my head and told him once he paid for it he could choose to die however he pleased .....  :) no sir..money in hand and you can drive it home...i will demonstrate for a serious buyer with a paid deposit that I would refund if he was un-happy with the car or anything i said about the car wasn't 100% at that time. |
