*** HELP *** fuel pressure

Just bought a nova with a 406 sbc in it, its suppose to run 6.49 to 6.54 all motor no power adders.

just got the car yesturday so i was draining the oil today and noticed it smelled like racing fuel BAD...even kind of thin.

had 60#s of oil pressure.

what is the fuel pressure u guys run on your regulator, this is a single 850 holly (berry grant) and its set at 14 pounds, isn`t that high ????

thanks for all your time and help

I run about 4.5 to 5.5 psi. 14 psi will probably blow past your needle and seat.

I run right at 7 psi :!: :!: On my gas engine :!: :!:

Yeah, 14psi is way too much. Set it at 7-7.5psi and you should be good to go.

Something you might look in to is your fuel supply. If the person who had the car before you might have been trying to band-aid a fuel delivery problem. The fuel pressure might be dropping on the top end so they had it cranked way up to compensate the issue. Just something to look at.

You will want to make sure your fuel pressure gauge is accurate too. 14 lbs. of fuel pressure should be flooding that thing at idle.
