been awile but i did do a few things in my own way. once i picked up a dirty longhair bearded guy.that was on a off ramp with a sign that said would work for food.he told me he had been out of the army for about 6 yrs and he was having a real hard time adjustin g to normal life. i dont even know why he told me that he just kinda spit it out.i let him talk for awhile then i decided he was really trying to find his place but it wasnt where he was lookin. so i took him to a wendys.bought him a big bag of food.and we sat in the parkin lot while he ate. when he was done he said he would do what ever job i had for him.i didnt have anything for him but i asked him if he wanted to clean up some. hell yeah!! so i got him a room for a nite, told him id pick him up in the morning and get him farther from town as the law would pick him up and hed be in jail for awhile if they caught him with no home and no money. ive seen them do it here.anyway the next morning about 10.00 i pulled in there to get him and he was cuttin the grass.at first i though he was just doing it to get some more to eat. but when i got out of my car he run up to me and hugged me. scared the shit out of me. he said he got to talkin to the nite manager and they needed someone to work maintance and he took the job right then and there. they gave him a room and a few bucks a week.that was about 10 yrs ago. the last i heard of him he was the nite manager!ive never told anyone about this until just now. i dont know why i just always thought that was between me and him and god.i never even told my wife and i tell her everything!i quess im telling this now because people need to now that that one act of kindness can go far.real far.and we need it now more than ever.but i wouldnt advise anyone to pick up someone. i carry a gun within reach at all times so i wasnt to worried. but in this day and time you do have to be evven more careful.but not cold hearted.
