Default Newbie looking to learn

I was just wanting anyone and everyones advice. I'm looking to buy a motor from a junkyard. Something I can teach myself on and learn how all this shit works. Thinking about an LS motor of some sort. Any info/advice is much appreciated.

Just start out with a lawnmower engine. Principles are the same and cheaper to learn. If you have a car, find an engine that can be swapped into your car and rebuild and swap. Keep the original in case it isn't successful the first time. JMO
