Ford 406 Engine
Thanks for the reply. I already found a lot of info on the web regarding this engine. I was hoping there was a visual inspection that would tell you if in fact this was a 406 engine. I'm thinking about buying a 1961 Ford Sunliner. The owner says it is a 406 c.i. with the tri-power set up. I know the 406 did not come out until 1962 and then only mated to a 4 speed. This car has a auto trans. I'm thinking the engine is probably a 352 or 390 with the tri-power set up. To be sure I'll have the owner give me the engine casting numbers and look them up. The owner insists it is a 406. I think he is wrong and just wants to sell the car. Thanks again for your help.

I thought about the engine being replaced, but the owner insists this is the engine that came in the car. I'll probably buy the car anyway, because the price is reasonable. The car is in almost new condition for $17000.
If it is a 406 then thats just a bonus. Buy the way I really like your road racing Dodge. Good luck and thanks again.

The guy I'm buying the car from is the 3rd owner. So far all the numbers I've ran show that this car came with a 352- 2 barrel. The current owner states that this is the engine that came in the car. Who knows? If I get the car I will post pictures. Check my profile for photos of some of my cars.

deward,
I would trust my numbers more than a person that is trying to sell something. However, he may truly believe that he purchased it with a 406 in it. But, if you buy the car, and it turns out to be a 406 all the better, but if it is the same 352 that came with the car, then you have a quandary, do you rebuild the 352 to keep it original, or put the engine that you want to build in it. All in all, my advice is, if you like the car, and the price is right, I'd buy it. After all these years, there can't be that many left of that particular model. dgh
