Want to change tire size
Can I use my tubes and 12" wide rims from a 29x12x15 with a 32x14x15 slick? I want to increase my tire height and width, just didn't want to go through the cost of changing everything. Thank you, markadams

I would not want to run a slick one inch less than my rim size. IMO, up to 2 inches wider tire than your rim is fine. Matter of a fact, it will give you alittle extra MPH, since your tire will grow more when its alittle wider than the rim.

In the fastest street tire heads up classes, they regularly and successfully run a 10" tire on a 15" wide rim with bead locks. The reason is to make the entire tread stay on the ground and not round and grow at speed like tires do when the rim is narrower than the tire as Dparker noted earlier. A narrow rim is not the best choice but as long as the side effects don't bother you you can run the rim narrower than the tire. The street tire guys do the exact opposite proportions for the best traction for there application.
The only reason to do this intentionally, is to keep a limited tire width usually by rules, planted, where a wider tire is needed.
P.S. throw the tubes out too......

Topspeed your exactly right. But I think Mark was just hoping he could use his 12" rims with his 14" tires for awhile so he didn't have to buy new rims at the same time he bought the slicks. I think its fine to do so and later he could get a set of 14" rims. Optimum choice would be to buy both, but I have run a 2" difference with no problems.

You guys nailed it. I am building this new tube chassis corvette and it has such big rear wheel wells the 29 looks small in there. I'm not only wanting to change to fill up the area, I will be running some 1000' races at Z-Max dragway this year and with a 456 gear and a 29" tire my car may not have enough motor. Have to priortize my purchases. (as we all do). I also got a little crazy with a 5000 rpm converter, so I hope to take care of a lot of things with a taller tire. It seems the 14x32's are all over the place. Does anyone make a 12x32 or 33? Thanks for the advice guys!
