1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet
For consignment, a 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera cabriolet with a title verified 77,715 actual miles, owned and driven by our consignor for 29 years, garage kept, fair weather and short distance drives only. The air cooled 3.2 liter Boxer 6, the Fuchs wheels, and the removable top help make this one of the most desirable sports cars in the collector world. If you've driven one, you understand why, as Porsche once put it, there is no substitute.
Exterior
This one comes in Venetian Blue, a stunning medium blue that is complemented by the typical black features of the 911 including the bumper and accordion like bellows, the solid door handles, and the quintessential grille on the rear deck. It all comes together with a black rocker panel and 16-inch black Fuchs wheels wrapped in tires with a late 2021 date code. The blue canvas top is less than 20 years old and is in fantastic condition and the reflector strip that spans the band between the taillights will forever be cool especially as PORSCHE is etched in the plastic. In profile, the 911 pedigree is expressed in its distinct shape, from the contoured headlight fronted raised fenders to the sloping tail that shrouds the engine. This babied car shows no exterior imperfections.
Interior
Navy Blue leather starts on the door panels with leaning stitched inserts and tight weave carpeted lowers. Then it's on to the bucket seats, tall and blue, and this well loved car shows some patina on the driver's seat with creasing and scratches in the leather but no tears. The suggested 2+2's in the back are in very good condition and so is the passenger front bucket. The steering wheel also shows some love marks in the form of slight wear and scratches, but it still has PORSCHE embossed on the middle, so we're cool with a bit of usage. Meanwhile, the stupendous gauge arrangement of five dials in a row is clean, functional, and easy to read. The newer AM/FM/CD radio was added in 2006 and has an accompanying amplifier was added in 2023. The center console houses the floor mounted shifter wearing a boot of blue leather and surrounded by plush blue carpet protected by plush Porsche floor mats added to the car in 2020.
Drivetrain
Under the decklid sits the clean 3.2 liter Boxer 6 cylinder engine putting out 214 horsepower and receiving fuel through injectors. It's set into motion via a 5-speed manual transmission which keeps power at the rear and 3.44 gears. Power disc brakes bring this blue beauty to a stop.
Undercarriage
Dry and driver quality underneath with a thin, even coating of road dirt on wheel components and the aerodynamic belly pan which takes up most of the underside real estate. No drips or residual oil is seen anywhere and the dual exhaust travels a short distance to exit via one wide tailpipe on the left rear corner of the car. Independent track arm suspension in front is mated with independent torsion bar suspension in back.
Drive-Ability
Find the key on the left and crank this six to life and life is suddenly golden. The characteristic exhaust note escorts us onto the test loop where we row through the gears and find excellent power, tracking on rails, and the ability to stop on a dime. Everything works on this pampered Porsche. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This is a Goldilocks car. It's just the right size. Has just the right amount of power. Is just the right color. Has just enough patina to allow for carefree jaunts. Vintage 911's are quick and often quick to sell, so if you're in the market, and if you've read this far, you are, be like a LeMans driver and sprint to the phone or head to the mall.
